For any aspiring manager or entrepreneur in the fine food and beverage sector the chance to strengthen their skills in Italy is a great opportunity and that is what SDA Bocconi School of Management is offering to the winners of its business game challenge. The 15 participants from around the world who come out on top of the Fine Food & Beverage Entrepreneur Challenge will be invited to SDA Bocconi’s Milan campus in July for an intensive course designed for them in which to update their knowledge of industry trends and learn the strategy, branding and business planning skills necessary to be successful in the sector.

The challenge is open to anyone, from anywhere in the world, and participants will be able to play from May 17 until June 1. Once registered, competitors will be able to login to the game and play once within the 2-hour time limit given to complete their assigned challenge.

The case study, prepared by SDA Bocconi, is based on a real business situation and is set in the fine food and beverage sector, testing players’ analytical, managerial and entrepreneurial skills. After reading the introduction to the case, participants will continue to the questions section. Performance will be evaluated on the quality of answers (70%), and on the promptness in answering (30%).

The business game originates from SDA Bocconi’s research, practical knowledge and experience in the food and beverage industry, which in January 2009 led to the unique specialized programme Master in Fine Food and Beverage Management (MFFB).

“The business game participants,” said Massimiliano Bruni, MFFB Director, “will be asked to be both strongly business-oriented and particularly sensitive to the main characteristics of the fine food and beverage industry. This competition will test their ability to become managers and entrepreneurs in this field, which has many unique characteristics, and which is strictly related to the territory and the culture of a country.”

The 15 winners will be selected to take part in a specially designed 2-day intensive course “Fine Food and Beverage industry: learning from leaders”, organized by SDA Bocconi on July 13 and 14, 2010. They will interact with faculty from the Master in Fine Food and Beverage Management, top-standing industry guest speakers and will visit and meet the management of one of the leading Italian companies in the industry.
